CHANDRAYAAN ? 1
Mile Stone in Indian Space Exploration
Congratulations for the team of our Scientists

ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair  George Koshy, Mission Director; K. Radhakrishnan, Director, VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram; T.K. Alex, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore; and M. Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayaan-1.
Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV ? CII) on Wednesday morning successfully put Chandrayaan ? 1 into its initial orbit to the Moon.  This is the first time India is sending a spacecraft to the Moon.
G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), called the success   a historical moment   and   the beginning of a new era   in India s space exploration programme.   Our journey to the Moon has just begun. Everything went on perfectly well, it is a remarkable performance by the PSLV.
 Aim
To determine the global topographical field of moon using the laser altimetry data.  To determine an important model of the lunar gravity field. To interpret the new topographic and gravitational fields data for better understanding of the geophysics of moon. To development and demonstration of technologies required for impacting a probe at the desired location.  Technological forerunner for future landing missions on the moon.
The Scientific payloads will help in preparing a three dimensional atlas of the entire topographic surface of the moon, spot minerals such as Thorium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Silicon, Iron and Titanium and in confirming the reported presence of water ice in the moon s polar regions.
